This software based project is a dynamic multimedia based application for learning, calculating and categorizing values of basic electronic components i.e. resistance, capacitance and inductance. The software aims at building an entertainment based educational application where in it is fun to learn and know the basic electronic components.
This software application will contain all the information regarding the elements with a dynamic graphical user interface. The software will provide audio based information about the elements and also provide visual and animations to better understand them.
The various calculators for each component are as follows:
-
Resistance
-
‘Color to value converter’ which helps in getting the value of a resistor according to the color code selected by the user.
-
‘Value to color converter’ which helps in getting the color code of a resistor according to the value selected by the user.
-
‘Series resistance calculator’ which helps in calculating the value of resistance if all selected resistances are connected in series in a circuit.
-
‘Parallel resistance calculator’ which helps in calculating the value of resistance if all selected resistances are connected in parallel in a circuit.
-
-
Capacitance
-
‘Color to value converter’ which helps in getting the value of a capacitor according to the color code selected by the user.
-
‘Value to color converter’ which helps in getting the color code of a capacitor according to the value selected by the user.
-
‘Series resistance calculator’ which helps in calculating the capacitances if all selected capacitors are connected in series in a circuit.
-
‘Parallel resistance calculator’ which helps in calculating the value of capacitances if all selected capacitances are connected in parallel in a circuit.
-
The same also implies to calculation of inductance. The software also calculates the approximate resistance for obtaining a particular value.
Electronica Color Code:
The electronic color code discussed here is used to indicate the values or ratings of electronic components, very commonly for resistors, but also for capacitors, inductors, and others. A separate code, the 25-pair color code, is used to identify wires in a cable or bundle.
The electronic color code was developed in the early 1920s by the Radio Manufacturer’s Association, now part of Electronic Industries Alliance and was published as EIA-RS-279. The current international standard is IEC 60062[1].
Color bands were commonly used (especially on resistors) because they were easily printed on tiny components, decreasing construction costs. However, there were drawbacks, especially for color blind people. In the days of classical chassis televisions, overheated resistors would change their color bands, making it virtually impossible to distinguish brown from red from orange
Edutainment:
Edutainment (also educational entertainment or entertainment-education) is a form of entertainment designed to educate as well as to amuse. Edutainment typically seeks to instruct or socialize its audience by embedding lessons in some familiar form of entertainment: television programs, computer and video games, films, music, websites, multimedia software, etc. Examples might be guided nature tours that entertain while educating participants on animal life and habitats, or a video game that teaches children conflict resolution skills.
